Eagles win Opener, 19-4 over Mavericks. [A Basso Reporting]: A tight game, 6-3, bottom 5th, became 11-3, and he Eagles never looked back. The Birds had 19 runs on 25 hits, going 25-50; Ace hurler George Vansise (suffering from the flu) was in vintage form going 8 inns, 4 runs to start 1-0; the All-Star vet was 16-4 last season, Dennis Taratino thought he was playing on a LL field, hit 2 balls that no one could see, but both were caught by an AAA LF player who ran them done 495 feet away.

Mike Loete turns in a stellar performance, not only going 2-4, 3 rbi but ran down 3 Texas Tweeners and a fantastic back hand of a hot hit grounder towards 2B, then threw out the speedster kneeling down. Not to be out done, Joe Raia, 3-5, 2 rbi, had a running-in diving, belly walloper, landing for the catch in LF. 3 hitters were with Wilkey with 3 rbi, Joe R with 2 rbi, and Jeff Lieberman with 1 rbi; but 4 hits went to 3B er Chris Pellegrinelli, who had the big bat day with 4-5, 5 rbi and a towering HR-3 rbi dinger to left center. 2 hit agents were Louis Vidal (1 rbi), Austin Kelly, and Charlie Fisher (2 rbi). Dennis T got his first Eagle hit in 3 years (single that we all saw). For the Gun-smokers, Morgan Tighe continues his finest hitting, but Ken Enderley did not fare so well in pitching, 6 runs, 1 inn!
