[RBodnar Reporting]: After a long losing streak, the Knights put up an upset win, 13-12, against the Mavericks. Knight’s George Silverman (pitch the full game win). But not without hiccups. Mav started the game by blasting 7 runs in the top of the first. Then got another in the top of the 3rd. Then, Knight George shut the Mav down for 4 innings. Knights got rolling, 1 in first and three in 4th. Then the charge happens in the bottom of the 7th with 7 runs. To go ahead by 4. But Mav came back in the top of the 8th with 4 runs to tie the game. Into the 9th with one out and Mav runners on 1st and 2nd, Knight George helps himself by flagging a liner for an inning-end double play. Bottom 9th. Knights Nat Rickards got to second with no outs. And Hero Mitch Saul shot a single to get the walk-off win. Nat Richard was the hitting star with a homer, double, and hit for 3 for 4 and two RBI. Then the rain came when we finished.
[ABasso Reporting]:
For the 3rd week in a row, teams have been out 'to get the Eagles', a top-notch team, and the Blazers gave them a very tight game after 5 innings, behind 2 runs. Five lead changes took the game to the end of 5 inns with the Eagles leading10-8. The Blazers closed it with 1 run, to 10-9. But, Ace Pitcher George V gave up that only run in the last 4 inns, while the Birds had inns of 2-4-4 runs to close it out by 11.
The hot hitting Eagles banged out 27 hits, 7 walks. 3 Home Runs were the highlight with Brian U, Flash Wilken, and Detective BR (name withheld due to MS13 life threating recognition). Brian U, 3 hits, HR, his 2nd of career, all this year; Billy R, 4 hits, 2 rbi, HR, and Wilken, 4 hits, 4-4, +walk, 3 rbi, HR. Other hot bats went to Chris P, 3 hits, 2 rbi, George V, 3 hits, 4 rbi, Mike L, 2 hits, and the trio: Nite-man Dennis T, 2 hits, 2 rbi along with the Fisherman Charlie F, and the Silencer Vic G, same.
Defensively, George throws 1-run ball over last 4 inns, to clinch the win; Eagles led 10-8 at the time. While the Blazers had 2 blazing wallops that were High (at least 9 stories high), Far, Wide, and took 6.1 seconds in flight, hauled in by veteran LF Brian U.
Unfortunately, Goat of the Game, in a SS to 3B to 1B DP attempt - 3B'er Chris P, throws ball into the Eagles Nest, some 96 feet high, and hurting little Bird Ellen who was treated by Dr E and is ok. With that 1 error, the Birds continue with another high school mental blunder by standing up to cross the home plate (tagged out), instead of sliding or running thru the plate! The perfect game is sought but seems to be unachievable.
The Skipper was heard mumbling that he might have to hold a 'Softball 101 for the Aged' class before the upcoming Sunday's anticipated big game tango. On the tough-luck Blazers side, Chase Altneu (Abe's son) in the #2 batting position went 3 for 4; Rich Browne in the #4 batting position went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's, and Jeff Abraham also went 3 for 4 and 2 RBI's.
An MVP Honoree Shout-out to DH Abe Altneu, a very well-seasoned ageless veteran, still swinging, went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Gabe Vasquez pitched the tough lost and went 2 for 4.
[MElba Reporting]: THE DEADHEADS WINNN! - Heads continue to roll, racking up season’s best 3 in a row. This one wasn’t easy, as Panthers hung tough in a Pitcher’s duel. Notable contributions were ; Larry G.- making several clutch plays at an unfamiliar position, Marc P.- going 8 innings in LF, on busted wheels and Tom P. - outstanding on the mound, as usual. On a day in which runs were at a premium for both teams, the bottom of the Heads’ order knocked in 5 of the 9 runs. It was a solid and gritty performance by the entire team. Great effort, guys.
Thanks for a fun game, Panthers. Always, a great time. Next up- Home game against the defending Champions, Dodgers. This promises to be a tough matchup as we attempt to climb up to.500. Good luck Dodgers!
