Week 9 (June 14) Game Summaries - Pending Updates

Game reports penidng, here is what's been submitted by the crack(ed) team of roving field reporters.

It was double-header week in Division 1, let's see how the teams feared in the shortened game format.

Div 1-A

Big matchup on Sunday for two games as the Angels and Elks squared off. Both trying to build momentum and move up in the standing. But this Sunday turned into a draw between the teams, changing nothing in their standings.  The Elks won big in the 1st game, 15-5. Only to the Angels regroup and edge out their opponents in the later game 7-6.

Div 1-B

A wild doubleheader in the only Div1-B matchup of the weekend. 1st place Sparky's Diner playing the winless All American Masonry team. W's were imperative for the Masonry guys this weekend.  What resulted we two wildly different games.  In the opener, Sparky's manhandled the AAM team, winning 19-1.  In the 2nd game, the tide turned and All-American Masonry sent the message that they will not go quietly into the night, shutting down and shutting out the Div 1-B leaders 16-0.

Div 1 (Intra)

Eye Adventure remains firmly planted in 2nd place in Div 1-A despite splitting the day with the Hibernians. Game 1, the Magoo's won 7-2, only to be outdueled in the 2nd game 11-8.

Cooper Still remained the only undefeated team in the League, beating the Mustangs 22-6. This was the only Div 1 matching that didn't play two games today.

Div 2

In a time, restricted game Thunder 2.0 topped the Red-hot Deadheads 14-6 in seven innings. Our veteran pitchers Giulio and Phil combined for the win. Giulio was the winning pitcher going 5 innings allowing 5 runs and Phil pitched the final 2 allowing 1 run. Our top hitters were Joe D 3 for 4 HR 4RBIs,

Andre V 2 for 3 HR 4 RBIs, Sean P 2 for 3 HR 4RBIs,   Joel R 3for 3 RBI, Mike M 3 for 4, James V and Jonathan C both went 2 for 3. Jonathan with 2 doubles. Deadheads played good defense HRs accounted for 7 of our runs. Our next 2 games are tough facing last season's #1 Dodgers and Copper Still the 6 time A division Champs. HELP ! Eagles over Mavericks, 21-4. The Eagles felt what it is like to win a game. The 2026 version has struggled all year, now, 3-5 in won/loss. In this game, the Birds took their frustrations out by silencing the Sharp-shooting Mavs.     The Eagles Management would like to thank Brian Uhlinger, who is moving to NC, after playing 15 years with the Eagles. The stellar Outfielder has been a true competitor, with all traits of top-notch hitting, fielding and running. The Skipper will miss his ‘son’ roaming CF and hauling in impossible fly-outs; and his ways of being humble in his actions. The last remaining original Eagle is the Skipper himself, with softball in his blood for 60 years.

Craig Vansise learned that there is life after death. Having loss his bat 2 years ago, it finally showed up (via Eagle-express) as this veteran went 3 for 4, 2 runs, 4 rbi, his best day in 18 months. Thank goodness his basket catching of outfield flies remained steady.

As the Skipper knows that all things go in 3’s, his magic was extended to a struggling Jeff Lieberman, RF, returning to past form, hitting 3 for 4, 1 run, and 1 rbi, and on a current streak 8 for 12 over the last 3 games.

Several top hitters were 1B Billy Robinson, 4 for 4 (second week in row), 4 runs, and 4 rbi; Billy ‘the worm scooper” a nickname his teammates deemed as his knack for picking up short hop throws to first base. Chris Pellegrinelli, 3B, one of the naughty short hops(!) contributor, came through with good hitting, 3 for 5, 2 runs, 2 rbi; Iron-arm pitcher George Vansise finessed his steady year hitting, now .500, went 3 for 5, 2 runs, 3 rbi.

Coming off the 14-day DL, George Vansise showed no effects of his right shoulder injury, giving up only 4 runs. Elvis Minaya wrapped up with the save with no run pitching.  [Reporting featured over Eagle Network (EN) by /Eagle Reporter #3]

Blazers remain on top of the Div-2 standing with a lopsided win over the struggling Knights, 22-1.

The Panther knock the Dodgers out of the place on top of the Division, handing the boys in blue a 2nd straight loss, 16-11.

There is now a 4 way tie for 2nd in the Division.

The Swingers and Halligan's played some touch football this weekend, rather than softball. The Swingers hung on in a wild game that saw 5 or 6 home runs hits between the teams. Swingers outlast the Halligan's winning by a little more than a touchdown - the final of 26-17.

The final recap of the weekend was the wildest ending of them all.  After a brutal back and forth contest, with more than 900 yards of combined offense, the clock expired on the field and when the dust settled, ODB and the Parlays had played to a 23-23 tie. Wow boys, I hope the beverages after the game eased the aches and pains of this battle.

Until next week. Here's something to ponder, "Man, I did love this game. I'd have played for food money. It was the game..."
