About the Senior Softball
Annual Boulder Day Event Coaches & Players compete

The Rockland Senior Softball League is a competitive and recreational softball league for individuals starting at 35 years of age and older.

Eligibility to Play in the Rockland Senior Softball League varies by division.

  • Players,(men's league) must be age 35 in the year of play and prior to October 1 to play in Division I. That is, if you are 35 in July, you can play all year; however, if you are 35 on October 2nd, you can not play until the following year.
  • Division II requires players to be 40 or over.

The League is a member of the American Softball Association (ASA) and all of our teams, officials, fields and umpires are all insured and certified.

The League began in 1982 with four teams seeking a fun, age-appropriate competitive atmosphere to play ball. The league has averaged between 16 and 24 teams over the past decade. Divisions are arranged based on skill level, competitiveness and style of play.

All divisions adhere to the same pitching rules. Pitching is slow pitch and follows many of the ASA Slow Pitch guidelines with some tweaks to permit a broader range of pitchers to participate. No slingshot or windmill pitching is permitted. The Clincher Gold ball is the league mandated ball.

  • Division I is highly competitive and the quality teams have strong skills by every player on their roster.
    • Aluminum bats and wooden bats with ASA-approved certification are permitted.
    • Composite handle bats are permitted, but no composite barrels.
  • Division II is less competitive, with rosters demonstrating varying skill levels, ages and abilities.
    • Composite bats with ASA-approved certification are allowed in this division. See links on the website for a full list of approved bats.
  • In some seasons, the leage has created a 3rd Division.
    • The style of play, roster skills and overall composition of teams varies from season to season depending on how many teams look to play a particular style of ball different from the standard league design.

Games are played Sunday mornings from mid-April through the end of September. The League has permits to use numerous fields throughout Rockland County that provides every team an opportunity to play ball each and every week (weather permitting). Games are 9 innings in length.
